👟 Sustainable and affordable sneakers

Many sneakers today are made from non-recyclable materials and their manufacturing often releases chemicals harmful to the environment. Oftentimes they are also manufactured under exploitative conditions as well. However, the new shoe brand Cariuma wants to change this.

Cariuma, unlike many other shoe brands, uses raw materials such as organic cotton, bamboo, mamona oil and sugarcane in order to put sustainability, ethics, comfort and quality first when creating their sneakers.

In the past, Cariuma have used for example algae blooms to create foam sneakers and producing shoes from these kinds of materials makes them completely recyclable when worn out.

Now, the company has started a reforestation program in Brazil and they promise to plant a pair of trees with every pair of sneakers purchased. Many ecosystems are in trouble and initiatives like this one helps a lot. Cariuma’s shoes have caught the eye of many big brands and there has been an increase in popularity regarding sustainability from both brands and the public.

Initiatives like this one, which both care about the people and our Earth can help a greener and more sustainable future come sooner.
