Last year investments in green startups doubled. We talked to climate investor Einar Bodström to understand why it increased so much.
He invests in green impact startups and also runs his own green startup, Climate View. They help cities to take their climate planning and make it a workshop.
Why did investments in climate startups double last year?
"The realization struck hard. It's now obvious to everyone involved that this is the direction that the world is movin towards. And where the world is moving there is growth, and where there is growth there is capital. I would be surprised if investment does not continue to increase."
Which do you think is the most interesting and exciting green startup right now?
"It's incredibly difficult to choose, there are so many in so many sectors. In a Swedish context, it will probably be Einride, they move incredibly fast and bring very new synapses to the transport industry."
What type of green startups are you investing in?
"Those who think and act big."
What type of green technology will attract the most investment in 2022?
"The most capital-intensive, such as electricity production and storage. The race for fusion will presumably continue to attract huge capital and everything that has to do with storage should probably do the same. And of course money will probably continue to flow towards transports and mobility."
What tips do you have for people who do not have millions of dollars but want to invest smaller amounts in green startups or green technology?
"Think of the shifts. Find out which shifts you believe in, and based on that invest in a number of different companies that are on the future side of that shift."
