Tesla is one of the many private sector companies that has stepped up to help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pioneer EV company has just shared a video of its first ventilator, detailing how it works and what its made up of, which includes mostly electric vehicle parts.
Tesla’s team of engineers including VP of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, has created the first prototype of a ventilator system. The team shared their insightful and promising video on Twitter, which is now also available on YouTube.

The team highlights how important it is for them to use their own car parts and how they are putting significant focus on that. They do not want to add any more strain to actual ventilator manufacturing companies or healthcare systems by taking away from an already depleted supply of ventilator parts.
The system uses a hospital-grade supply system that filters air into a mixing chamber and makes it breathable.
The system also uses screens that will allow medical workers to easily monitor the breathing of the patient. Tesla has used Model 3 dash screens powered by the vehicle’s infotainment computer to show pressure, airflow and volume.
As one of Tesla’s engineers states in the video, “There’s still a lot of work to do, but we are giving our best effort to make sure we can help some people out there,”
It is still unclear when the ventilators we go into production, but this is a very positive step forward and innovative approach in the fight against COVID-19.
