ABB is releasing a new electric car charger, Terra 360, which will provide the fastest charge to date, according to the company.
It should not take more than 15 minutes to fully charge an electric car, according to ABB. If you are in even more of a hurry, Terra 360 can give you enough juice to go 100 kilometers after a mere three minutes of charging.
The chargers are intended for use in public environments such as petrol stations, car parks, and the like. The first chargers will be delivered in Europe later this year and the rest of the world starting next year.
360 in the name comes from the charger's maximum output power of 360 kW. By comparison, Tesla's Supercharger V3 has an output of 250 kW.
Terra 360 can charge four cars simultaneously, and in addition to high output power, it's claimed to be very easy to use. A lighting system will guide customers through the charging process using lighting signals. The system shows the charging status of the electric car battery and the remaining time before an optimal charging session is completed.
ABB now hopes that many companies will buy Terra 360 and switch to electric cars.
"Road transport accounts for almost a fifth of global carbon dioxide emissions, so e-mobility is crucial if we are to achieve the climate goals in the Paris Agreement. We will also lead by example by converting our entire vehicle fleet of over 10,000 vehicles to emission-free vehicles", says Theodor Swedjemark, ABB's Global Communications and Sustainability Manager, in a press release.
