In order to improve underwater research and documentation a drone called Seasam has been invented, manufactured by French marine tech company Notilo Plus. This drone is capable of wireless filming HD videos with complimentary audio of submerged objects.
Seasam can both follow and spot divers while keeping them in center frame, even in low visibility conditions and at night. Not only that, Seasam uses sonar to guide itself as well as avoid obstacles. This allows for increased diver safety together with a better catalog of visual data from diving missions.
Seasams users can control the drone via a remote control or even their mobile phone and the machine has a GPS tracker built in which allows scientists to pinpoint positions of anything interesting spotted by Seasam.
According to Optimist Daily the AI powered drone has impressed scientists due to its easy-to-use nature, impressive video quality, and its speed. Seasam has many potential uses such as search and rescue missions, underwater exploration, checking underwater infrastructure for maintenance and biological as well as environmental research.
Not only can Seasam be used for scientific purposes, it can also level up underwater filming. In fact, Seasam has recently been featured and used to shoot the underwater thriller The Deep House.
