🐝 An app with AI should save bee communities from dying

Each year, 20 million of the 100 million bee communities die, partly because of a parasite.

BjΓΆrn Lagerman has almost 50 years of beekeeping experience, writes Breakit . Now he is creating buzz around an app he has developed that can analyze pictures you take with your mobile phone of your hive community. Artificial intelligence determines how society feels and can find parasite infestation.

BeeScanning now has the world’s largest database of manually annotated images of bees. The application is based on neural networks and deep learning. Users’ images and results are reviewed and sent back to the network to continuously improve its performance.

The technology collects metadata about community bee strength, race, GPS location, time, infestation and fertile queen.

By combining these and future functions such as other health indicators, juvenile diseases and nutritional status, we create tools for forecasting and a new understanding of how to grow healthy bees.

The app is free to use.
