The plastic debate is impossible to miss. Now, many soda companies are making changes to their bottles to make them more environmentally friendly. For example are two of the Coca-Cola Company’s North American brands focusing on the circular economy of their plastic packaging. Dansani have designed, and are coming out with, bottles made from 100% recycled PET plastics (this doesn’t include caps and labels). Sprite is going to stop using green bottles and transition to clear plastic to increase the possibility for the material to be remade.
Dansani announced the upgrade to their bottles after Coca-Cola’s trademark 20 ounce bottles were part of the 100% recycled plastic bottles launched in New York, California and Texas. Thanks to the launch, Coca-Cola’s system can identify the best-quality sources of recycled PET (rPET) and the fine-tuned production process needed to make the 100% recycled plastic bottles.
This summer, a majority of Dasani bottles in the United States and all of them in Canada will be offered in 100% recycled plastic. Thanks to this transition, more than 20 million pounds of new plastic will be saved compared to 2019. Also, creating bottles from recycled plastic uses less energy than using virgin PET.
Small adjustments like this one can help a greener and more sustainable future come sooner.
